Lucky's Second Life

Date: August 3, 2021
Host name:James
Pet name:Lucky
Lucky was a black-and-white Border Collie, and his name came from a miraculous encounter. Four years ago, during a trip to the countryside, I found a frail little dog trapped in a barbed wire fence. His eyes were filled with fear and helplessness, but as I approached, he wagged his tail as best as he could. In that moment, I knew he needed me.
I brought him home and named him Lucky because he was lucky—and so was I. From then on, he became my "shadow," following me wherever I went. We ran together, camped together, and he even learned to fetch the newspaper for me. Lucky's intelligence and loyalty brought me endless joy.
However, last year, an accident changed everything. During a walk, Lucky suddenly dashed into the road to chase a squirrel and was hit by a car. I rushed him to the vet, but there was nothing they could do. For weeks, I dreamed of him almost every night, waking up with tears streaming down my face.
To honor Lucky, I decided to have a wool felt replica made. When I received it, my heart was deeply moved. His expression and posture were perfectly recreated—it felt like Lucky had come back to me. I placed it on my desk, and every day when I see it, I'm reminded of the beautiful times we shared.
