Haru’s Smile

Date: April 9, 2020

Host name:Michael
Pet name:Haru

Haru was a lively Shiba Inu with a special talent—he could "smile." Every time I came home, whether after a long day at work or just a quick trip downstairs, he would greet me with his signature Shiba smile, wagging his tail and circling around me as if to say, "Welcome back!"

We shared countless happy moments together. Haru loved going to the park more than anything. Every time he saw the grass, he’d run around like an excited child, and sometimes, he’d mischievously grab one of my shoes, leaving me both laughing and exasperated. He was an irreplaceable part of my life and my best friend.

However, last year Haru suddenly passed away due to an unexpected illness. It all happened so quickly, and when the reality of his absence sank in, it felt like a part of me was missing. I could no longer hear his footsteps or see his smile. Every time I came home, the empty spot by the door seemed to remind me that he was gone.

To honor Haru, I decided to create a 1:1 wool felt replica of him. The moment I saw it for the first time, tears streamed down my face. That familiar smile, those bright, lively eyes—it felt as if Haru had returned to me. I placed it by the door, and every time I come home and see it, I feel that same warmth again.

The companionship of a pet is priceless, and their love is pure and genuine. Even when they’re gone, their smiles and the memories they leave behind remain in our lives, becoming an everlasting source of strength.
